Technical Requirements for Using Online IRIS Help and
the IRIS Project Help site
There are some technical considerations for using the online
IRIS Help:
The online
IRIS Help documents are displayed as pop-ups. In
order to use the
IRIS Help, you must set your pop-up blocker to allow pop-ups
from
http://rwd.tennessee.edu.
The online IRIS Help documents may be enabled so the help window remains
on top of the IRIS screen.
To enable this function, users must use Microsoft Internet Explorer
and allow the installation of an ActiveX control. A prompt to install
the ActiveX control will appear at the first use of IRIS Help on a PC.
To allow the install, the user must:
have administrator rights to the PC
set Microsoft Internet Explorer Security Settings for Download signed ActiveX
controls to either Enable or Prompt
set Microsoft Internet Explorer Security Settings for Script ActiveX controls
marked safe for scripting to either Enable or Prompt
set Microsoft Internet Explorer Security Settings for Run ActiveX controls
and plug-ins to either Enable or Prompt
Install the RWD Info Pak Help Launchpad ActiveX control
when prompted to do so within Microsoft Internet Explorer.
The user may access the IRIS Help documents without the ActiveX control,
but the IRIS Help document will NOT remain on top of the
IRIS transaction screen. Furthermore, if the user does not install the
ActiveX control, s/he will continue to receive the installation prompt
each time IRIS Help files are accessed.
When the IRIS Help documents are displayed with the ActiveX control installed,
the internet browser window size is set to allow both the IRIS screen and
the help document to be shown. If you have a difficult time reading the
documents, you may re-size the browser window to allow a larger window for
the documents. If you maximize the help documents and you have the IRIS
documents enabled to remain on top, you will have to close or
minimize the IRIS Help window before you can access other applications on
your desktop.
Many of the IRIS Help documents are in PDF format. To view these files,
the user must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on his/her PC.
Based on the technical considerations listed and browser requirements
for other IRIS functionality, it is recommended to use Microsoft Internet
Explorer 5.5 or higher for the best performance of the IRIS Help.
The help documentation will also be available if you are accessing IRIS
via the Webgui link from the University of Tennessee Administrative Portal (UTAP).
If you encounter difficulties with the installation of the ActiveX control
and your departmental technical support person is unable to help you or
if you have other questions about the
IRIS Help documents, please contact
the IRIS Help Desk at
irishelpdesk@tennessee.edu.
